Upcoming Excercise
The city will be running a communications drill on Sunday, May 15, 2011.
In conjunction with this city activity, SylvanCERT will be coordinating damage assessment and communication practice from 12:00 pm - 2 pm. Even if you can not attend on time or within the exact span, please still come by at least to introduce yourself and learn about what is going on.
This will consist of an exercise of surveying neighborhood blocks for pretend-damage, recording the observations and relaying them back by radio by those who have them. The collected information will then be transmitted by amateur radio back to the City Emergency Operations Center on Villa St. The city will also practice relaying critical information reports outbound to us (e.g. streets and hospitals that are open or closed.)
Following the drill, the city performs a debrief at the fire services building on Villa that can make an interesting learning opportunity, but this is optional for those participants interested.
The drill will take place rain or shine but the gathering place may be weather dependent. I will confirm that as it gets closer.
What you should bring:
- Pen or pencil
- clipboard or notepad to write on
- FRS radio (tuned to channel 13)
- Outdoor walking or biking attire
- Mountain View CERT uniform (if you have one)
- Bicycle (if you like)
At least one radio amateur will need to run the packet radio. I will bring the equipment.
Please contact me with any questions and/or suggestions. I will take a head count closer to the event of who intends to attend.
City turns on Alert-SCC
Mountain View has just gone live with the new Alert-SCC system, a multi-modal system for alerting the public with emergency information. The system can use multiple phone numbers, email and text messaging to alert you of emergencies in your locality which they can tailor to specific block, streets or sections of the city. Register now to take advantage of this breakthrough new capability. http://alertscc.com
CERT volunteers will also be registered on a special list used to activate and inform those on neighborhood teams. Add your current information.
